The centre of Rio de Janeiro is the place where you will find most cultural institutions like museums, cultural centres, theatres, churches, etc., the buildings of public administration, and other historic buildings.

Also situated in the centre of Rio, is the going-out area Lapa where live music in clubs and bars attract revellers every night of the week, and on weekends, when the roads are closed off to traffic, the famous street party takes over the area. 

The centre is also interesting for shopping and in the area called Saara, around the street and metro station Uruguaiana, it is possible to find great bargains.
